AMERICUS CORRUPTUS
Corruption is not unique to the Ozarks. Sadly, the American legal system is awash in corruption. Unfortunately, the media are afraid to expose this corruption.
July 1, 2004 - Jeff and Mary write a poem of tribute to Doris and Elena Sassower, mother-and-daughter Co-Founders of the Center for Judicial Accountability, Inc. The name of the poem is "Like Mother, Like Daughter." Doris is an attorney, a member of the U.S. Supreme Court bar for more than 40 years, and former president of the New York Women's Bar Association. Like Elena, Doris suffered vicious retaliation for her work in bringing judicial reform issues to the fore.
November 21, 2004 - The New York Times Westchester Edition publishes Jeff and Mary's letter to the editor about Elena Sassower called "Incarcerated Activist."
In "When the Judge Sledgehammered the Gadfly" (County Lines column, Nov. 7), Marek Fuchs describes the judicial nominee process as "clubby," but he describes Elena Sassower as "relentless," "annoying" and "relatively friendless." Judicial corruption is a lot worse than just "clubby," and Elena is a highly regarded activist who has helped many victims of judicial corruption throughout the United States. We are two such victims, and we condemn the false and malicious prosecution, conviction and incarceration of Elena Sassower. And we support the Center for Judicial Accountability, which is run by Elena and her mother, Doris.
