CRONY ISLAND The Ozarks are separated from the outside world by mountainous roads, Civil War resentments, hate groups, fanatical fundamentalism, and righteous paranoia. This isolation has led to a clannish, homogeneous society of insiders who fear, hate, and exclude outsiders, especially minorities. It's ironic that the Ozarks are famous for folksy hospitality, Christian tourism, family values, and peaceful retirement. Jeff and Mary were victims of a series of attorneys who made so many errors and omissions, that it's difficult to believe they didn't collude. The attorneys concealed conflicts of interest and knowledge about the community, conducted no investigation, ignored evidence, refused to communicate with civil rights agencies, stonewalled Jeff and Mary, and softballed their opponents. After seven years of costly, bogus litigation, Jeff and Mary's case was dismissed, because two of their attorneys named the wrong plaintiff. Jeff and Mary were also victims of judicial misconduct. A circuit judge allegedly called a crucial drug witness to influence his testimony, make anti-Semitic remarks about Jeff, and discuss Jeff and Mary's confidential letter to their U.S. Senators. Despite compelling evidence, the circuit judge was never prosecuted. One month after he testified in court about the circuit judge, Jeff and Mary's private investigator suddenly disappeared. Other judges from the same Circuit joked about civil rights, made biased rulings, and lied about Masonic membership. There were other courthouse irregularities, involving subpoenas, docket records, missing files, false testimony, and harassment. Cronyism and corruption in the Ozarks are so pervasive and deep-rooted, that Ozark justice is an oxymoron. Ozark justice is based on the ABCs of the Ozarks: Amphetamine, Bigotry, and Corruption. |
